Wells in this field were drilled to the 5,000 to 6,000 foot range. One well had already required workover due to a casing corrosion failure. Probable cause of the casing failure was soil instigated corrosion of the well casing in a corrosive interval. Cathodic protection was an economical and feasible option. The cost of the entire cathodic protection system installation program for 24 wells plus a surface production facility and an 8 mile natural gas pipeline was approximately the same as the cost of one workover.
